Black Friday deals hit UK
Tuesday 26th November, 2013
Christmas gifts will be slashed by up to 70 per cent this Friday as one of the most important days for online shopping in the US hits the UK once again.
Consumers can expect cheap iPads, cut-price Kindles to bargains on coffee machines and cosmetics as part of Black Friday, the biggest shopping event of the festive season so far.
Traditionally the post-Thanksgiving shopping spree in the US, the trend is quickly cementing itself in the UK as more people buy Christmas presents online.
Total spending on Black Friday weekend in the US last year was $59.1 billion, compared to $52.4 billion in 2011 according to the National Retail Federation.
Not only can we expect another record in the US, but Black Friday 2013 also looks like being breaking all kinds of records in the UK, too.
Retailers across the board are slashing prices, both in-store and online. Some of the most discounted items are expected to sell fast.
For example, one retailer is cutting the price of Sony Wireless headphones from £99 to £49 while a 43-inch Samsung Plasma TV will be reduced from £549 to £349.
And this year like never before a huge amount of the Black Friday deals will be found online as more and more Brits use the internet for shopping.
Latest figures from IMRG and Capgemini show the online retail market continued to see steady growth in October, recording a solid 15% year-on-year increase.
Black Friday is followed by Cyber Monday - or Mega Monday - which is usually the single busiest day of the year for online retailers.
